You can get into any of our databases and indexes like WilsonWeb and Academic OneFile from off-campus (including abroad) if you use a link that goes through our proxy server. All the links on the library webpages should be configured this way, and certainly the ones on this page are: http://library.alleghey.edu/databases
When you are asked for an ID from these links, enter your Allegheny email user name and your email password.
You may have gotten a different ID prompt (from the vendor, not from our proxy server) if you were using a direct URL. This could happen for three reasons:
You know the direct URL for the database and just type it in (e.g., jstor.org)
You are using a bookmark you set while you were on campus
You are using a direct link a faculty member put on a website or Sakai page.
The first two are solved by using our databases page. If you want to go directly to an article based on a URL, like the third case, the best solution is to use the general link and then search for the article. Or you can re-write the article URL using the pattern you will see in our proxied links.
If you still have a problem, please send us a copy of the URL you are using.
